December daily meme - 11

master post here, still taking prompts!

11: Your favorite thing about the dear departed MMO Glitch.

Everything? (Okay, yes, that's cheating.)

I'd say the atmosphere. Both the atmosphere the game created (with all of the inherent whimsy, like getting eggs from eggplants, squeezing chickens for grain, and milking butterflies) and the community atmosphere of the players.

One of the frustrating things about many MMOs is that there is competitiveness inherent in the fanbase as well as the game itself. WOW is bad at this: the game enforces competition for kill tagging and for resources, and the players, when they're not deluged with gold spam or making Chuck Norris/murloc/anal jokes, are frequently combative, mocking or insulting other players. GW2 is better in that the game cultivates cooperation -- help someone kill something and you both get rewarded, and there are events designed for collaboration of just whoever happens to be around -- but there is still the MMO chat issues. Try asking for help and you'll get trolled and mocked and ignored; half the cries for help are themselves trolls; try going into WvW as a newbie and you'd better be wearing an asbestos suit.

Glitch was inherently friendly. The people as well as the game. And I liked that, regardless of whether I was in a social mood or not.

♥Glitch♥

Gliiiiiiiitch.

I have no idea how Glitch managed to be so nice (I have never seen any MMO as nice as it) but it was and I miss it so much.

Can't I just log in one more time and squeeze some chickens?
