To go or not to go, that is the question

I am trying to figure out what to do about choir today, given all the chair problems. My primary chair goes about two centimeters an hour -- okay, that's maybe an exaggeration, but not by much -- and taking the bus seems kind of risky, not to mention the fact that it will probably take me half an hour to cross campus from the bus terminal to where rehearsal is. My backup chair runs okay now that it has batteries, but I can't really access most of the functions since it was designed around my mobility situation seven-or-so years ago, and it's uncomfortable as hell.

So, my options, as far as I can figure them, are these:

1) Switch back to the old chair for choir, and take the bus route. Advantage: I'm actually at rehearsal, and I don't get frustrated with the speed of the chair. Disadvantage: My midday aide isn't great at between-chair transfers, and the chair is really fucking uncomfortable.

2) Stay in the new chair, and take the bus route, allowing lots of extra time. Advantage: Again, am at rehearsal. Disadvantage: Lots more time out in the cold, plus I am utterly screwed if I mis-time it and miss the bus, and I am liable to get in a punching-things-in-face mood again because of the fucking chair.

3) Stay home from rehearsal, and email the conductor and explain I'm having chair malfunction. Advantage: I stay warmer, and way less cranky. Disadvantage: I'm not at rehearsal (although I do tend to pick things up fairly quickly, so it probably doesn't matter in the long run).

I think it depends on how singing makes you feel. Singing for me has always been one of my favourite things, allowing me to forget the world around me and just immerse myself in emotion. My last choir it wasn't quite so great, but certainly in my church choirs it was fantastic. I often didn't feel like going and would stay at home bored and miserable and regret it. I very rarely regretted going to choir, even though some of the other kids (this was back when I was a kid) were bullies.

So if singing is something you absolutely love doing in this sort of way, I think it's worth trying to get there (although I'll leave it up to you to decide how!). If not, stay at home and avoid the frustration.

What's the weather like today, and how prone are you to catching crud that would interfere with singing? (It would suck massively to get there and not be able to sing.) This bears on whether you should go to rehearsal at all, and on which chair to use if you go. (Slow-but-comfortable means you're exposed to weather longer.)
