Kittehness

So I went to the SPCA meet-and-greet thing today. Dogs outside, cats and bunnies (in separate places) inside, all very chaotic. Got to meet her, and while she was not the most socialest of kitties, I did get to hold her for a bit, and watch her. She's not the sort of cat that is all "OH HAI there are PETTINGS come look at me because I am CUTE and you want to take me home mreeew?". More like "Noise. Chaos. Meh. I like it in the back of my cage, it is comfy and safe."

Bit she is v. cute, and I talked some with the current foster mom, and apparently she is fairly social, when she's comfortable.

... I did not come home with the kitty, only because they discovered that apparently she hadn't been fixed yet. (Whoops.) So there's that, and then they'll contact me and I'll do the paperworks and forms and fees and suchlike.

I did, however, come home with some cat supplies. Litterbox, litter, litter scoop, food of the sort she's used to (though not a very big bag, so I have a chance to price shop and also see if other foods would be better but mainly just so I would have some food), carrier, food and water dishes (of the basic stainless steel sort). And a 15% off coupon for new adopters.

I still need a scratching post or maybe two -- apparently what she likes best is the rope-covered ones? but they only had kitten-sized ones, and half of the ones they had were carpet. And ummm. Possibly other stuff.

Also, a cat.

I am oddly flailynervous. Like, at the same time, "omg I am going to Do This Wrong" (it's an irrational thing, not an actual reasoned Cats Would Be Bad) and "but what if this is just an impulse buy" (it's not) and "what if something goes wrong and I can't adopt her" (never mind that there of plenty of other cats in the world that need homes) and "what if the first day I have her she gets out the front door and runs away and I will be a horrible pet owner and I will never be allowed near pets again" (did I mention that this is mostly irrational) and "what if she hates me" and "what if there's a better home for her out there" and idek.

Urgh. Pets are supposed to be happymaking things, dammit.

I am thinking about renaming her, though. "Kisses" is just a little too ... something. Although it did lead to me going "küss küssy küssküss" at her. >_>

this, re kitty airlocks - having a glassed in porch made it so much easier to get in and out without letting Ariel out onto the road - she got out *once* in 10 years here, despite trying really hard, and then, when she did, she went about ten yards, and freaked out at the noise and slunk straight back in again (despite having free access to the back garden, so it wasn't the *outside* per se)
