Kittehness

So I went to the SPCA meet-and-greet thing today. Dogs outside, cats and bunnies (in separate places) inside, all very chaotic. Got to meet her, and while she was not the most socialest of kitties, I did get to hold her for a bit, and watch her. She's not the sort of cat that is all "OH HAI there are PETTINGS come look at me because I am CUTE and you want to take me home mreeew?". More like "Noise. Chaos. Meh. I like it in the back of my cage, it is comfy and safe."
Bit she is v. cute, and I talked some with the current foster mom, and apparently she is fairly social, when she's comfortable.
... I did not come home with the kitty, only because they discovered that apparently she hadn't been fixed yet. (Whoops.) So there's that, and then they'll contact me and I'll do the paperworks and forms and fees and suchlike.
I did, however, come home with some cat supplies. Litterbox, litter, litter scoop, food of the sort she's used to (though not a very big bag, so I have a chance to price shop and also see if other foods would be better but mainly just so I would have some food), carrier, food and water dishes (of the basic stainless steel sort). And a 15% off coupon for new adopters.
I still need a scratching post or maybe two -- apparently what she likes best is the rope-covered ones? but they only had kitten-sized ones, and half of the ones they had were carpet. And ummm. Possibly other stuff.
Also, a cat.

I am oddly flailynervous. Like, at the same time, "omg I am going to Do This Wrong" (it's an irrational thing, not an actual reasoned Cats Would Be Bad) and "but what if this is just an impulse buy" (it's not) and "what if something goes wrong and I can't adopt her" (never mind that there of plenty of other cats in the world that need homes) and "what if the first day I have her she gets out the front door and runs away and I will be a horrible pet owner and I will never be allowed near pets again" (did I mention that this is mostly irrational) and "what if she hates me" and "what if there's a better home for her out there" and idek.
Urgh. Pets are supposed to be happymaking things, dammit.

I am thinking about renaming her, though. "Kisses" is just a little too ... something. Although it did lead to me going "küss küssy küssküss" at her. >_>

kitty!!!!
Date: 2011-02-12 11:44 pm (UTC)do you have a screen door or screened porch? an airlock sort of space does make getting in and out with the cat getting out much easier, espeically with mobility issues. (only 1 of ours even tries, though, and he was an un-neutered adult male who'd lived in the enighborhood for about 3 yaers by then. if a door's leftopen the others mght explore, but they usually run right back in when they're busted)
depending on how long she's had the name, she might respond best to one with similar sound or 2. otoh, she might have had a previous name that was completely different or she might not associate sounds as much as tone, so it really depends.

Date: 2011-02-13 09:07 am (UTC)Mine also had the waiting period of "not fixed yet" when we adopted them. I am not sure the pound fixes them until an adopter commits--like, why waste the resources if they don't get adopted and have to be
put down or somethingfarmed out to HALO, who takes on animals at the end of their time limit at the pound in AZ, and who might pay for the fixing instead? (Though bless, mine were a boy and a girl caged together, it seems like 'not making kittens!' might have been a thought?)no subject

Date: 2011-02-15 02:55 am (UTC)If you want to throw some food names at me, I'd happily give you my knowledge of good/bad/keep it/change it; I worked three years in a pet store, so I'm familiar with most of them and where they (really! all label claims or adverts aside) fall on the quality scale...
