OH! Yes, I see now! I don't know why, but I thought it would go in between the stitches on the knitting on the loom, but I see why that wouldn't work!
It would be a real pain in the ass to sit down with an abacus and move something over every time you hit 16 stitches too, and re-do that every row, wouldn't it? Damn.
