I actually had a customer service experience with Comcast where I talked with someone who *actually treated me like an intelligent and competent adult zomgwtf*
Seriously, conversations usually go along the lines of
"my internet isn't working, and I rebooted the modem with no effect"
"okay, can you please unplug the power cord of the modem, wait thirty seconds, and plug it back in?"
"but I did that already"
"I realize that ma'am but we have to do basic troubleshooting first so please follow my instructions"
".../headdesks/"
and tonight's was more like
"my internet isn't working"
"okay, can you please unplug the--"
"oh, I already power-cycled the modem and router, and rebooted the computer"
"okay great, and can I ask what order?"
"computer first, modem second, router third, and then all three at the same time."
"and when you did the three, did you turn the modem on first, letting it boot up all the way, then router--"
"--second, and computer third, yes."
"okay, so here's what's probably happening, and here are two ways of fixing it... (etc)"
*pink sparkly hearts*
(my internet, ftr, is being ... petulant. I can sometimes load web pages, albeit slowly, and get email some of the time, enough to not feel totally isolated; but anything that requires a constant connection, including videos and games and even irc and gchat, are not an option. so if anyone was wondering why I'd disappeared, that's why.)
