dorky HPness

So one day, my roommate says to me, "I want to go see that Harry Potter movie," meaning the one out currently. "I've heard it's good."
"Okay," says I.
"You know," she continues blithely, "I haven't seen any of those movies before."
"..." quoth I. Not so much because she hasn't seen the HP movies as because she wants to see the sixth without having any fucking clue about the universe or characters.
So I suggest that we watch at least the first one, first, so she knows something about who's who. She is completely enthralled (though tbh I don't know how she follows the plot given that she keeps dozing off :x ), so we decided to watch 2-5. Well, so far it's been 2-4, with 5 later in the week, and plans for moviegoing probably on Tuesday.
I have in the process discovered:
a) the movies (especially 2+; the first was okay anyway) are not as irritating and rubbing-me-the-wrong-way-y when it's been a while since I've read the books;
b) I still heart Hermione;
c) Sirius and Remus are totally an old married couple, and it wasn't just my slash-goggled imagination;
c) however, I still cannot stand most of PoA movie for Lupin, for the werewolf whateverthehell, and most especially for the patronus charm (glowy shield? what?) and for the lack of explanation of MWPP (which for the most part is "extraneous" -- it explains, f'rex, how Lupin knew what the map was and how it worked, but that can be worked out or reasoned elsewise -- but is still necessary for the whole thing where Harry goes "omg it's my dad" about the mysterious stag-shaped patronus ... when he didn't have any fucking reason to make that connection, grrr)
d) David Tennant makes a very good bugfuckinsane person.
e) I can no longer take Cedric Diggory seriously. I keep expecting him to sparkle.
...that is all.
(I so need to go back to the post-PoA S/R first-time fic I was working on. ♥)
