One of the fun things about learning Spanish is the insight it gives me into Latin.

The standard requiem text is of course super familiar, given how many times I've sung it, but I keep doing things like "Hostias et preces tibi, Domine, laudis offerimus oh hey the -mus ending is like the -mos 1pl that's pretty cool" or whatever.

It's almost like the two are related or something.

(iPad autocorrect wanted to put TiVo instead of tibi... lol)

Yes! Latin helps so much with the other Romance languages, and vice versa. (Well, French is a bit further away from, say, Spanish and Italian, but that's because there are more influences in French.)

I find it so interesting that Romanian is a Romance language -- it's so geographically isolate. Language geneaology is sooooooo interesting.
