A bunch of people are doing posts like this. I am a lemming. *makes lemming noises*

LJ connection: I will not be importing my contents from LJ. This isn't so much about making a complete break as it is about just having a fresh start, which probably makes no sense to anyone outside my head. I /will/ be claiming the isabeau@lj OpenID account when the functionality becomes available (which means that comments other people have imported will eventually show up as by me), and I am planning on being open in both directions about the link between the two sites.

(Amusingly, I seem to have settled on ysa as a shortname, as a hybrid between [livejournal.com profile] isabeau and [personal profile] ysobel ... which will probably lead to some amount of confusion with [personal profile] ysabel. [*waves at ysabel, grinning*] Apologies in advance...)

Crossposting: I may have said this before, but: I plan to /not/ be crossposting all that much. If I want to make sure both audiences see something, I may post it in one place with a link from the other, but there's enough overlap between the two sites, and the things I have to say aren't exciting enough to be worth subjecting people to two copies of.

Friending Circling policies, current: I am currently behaving in the following way with regard to subscription/access/etc. (I still like the WTF notation best, but those aren't the terms d'art, alas.)

* OpenID account. I grant access to any who watch me. No subscribing, because they can't write entries anyway. Occasionally, as people meander over, I will remove OpenID accounts that have the equivalent real account (i.e. whoever.livejournal.com getting a DW account 'whoever') in my circle, under the theory that very few people will use the OpenID account instead of the DW one. (If I'm wrong about that, and drop access to an actively-being-used OpenID account, poke me.)

* Normal account. I add (access+subscribe) anyone who adds me (in either direction). If you want off my access list (that is, if you want to watch me for public content but not protected), just ask. Almost all of my stuff to date is public anyway, though.

* I also add (access+subscribe) people I stumble across and find interesting. I don't expect obligatory reciprocating (even though that's how I behave, go figure) -- you're welcome to, of course, but I won't post sad cat macros about how everyone hates me.

Circling policies, future: No idea! It partly depends on the norms... which haven't been set yet.

* For reading, once reading filters exist, I will probably do some amount of filter-splitting to separate support/dev stuff from default-view people stuff from communities. I haven't yet decided whether I'll also do the hacky sort of default view vs non default view split that I use on LJ. (Obviously, the subscribe/access split that DW has makes it easier to deal with the theoretical condition of someone I want to have access to my protected entries without me having to read their journal. It doesn't at all help situations where I want to read someone but not every day, or where I want to have entries that I skim over because 75% of it is irrelevant but 25% of it is relevant, or where I go out of town for a day and come back to ?skip=bazillion.)

* For access, I will be making more use of filters, all of which will be the opt-in variety rather than opt-out. (Manually maintained, unless/until DW has the ability to do reader-opt-in-able filters, which would be awesome.) That said, if I have given you access and you do not want it, just let me know.
If you don't have an account you can create one now.
