Had a really good day today!
My stepmom texted me and my sister a few days ago saying that for my dad's birthday (today) she was making his favorite cake and did we want to come over. It was a good time -- coming over at noon meant I could have my morning aide drive me over, and my afternoon aide could get the van when the shift starts at 2. (Sometimes I can walk from my apartment to his place, mostly using greenbelt paths with some low-traffic streets, but that takes 40 minutes at top chair speed; today had a high of like 94 so hahahano.)
This was kept secret from him, so I showed up right at noon and he had a slightly !! expression, and then a few minutes later my sister and kids arrived. I didn't bring either dog (heat, sister's allergies, avoiding general chaos) and the kids were largely chill (for kids) so it was nice and calm. Good cake (carrot cake) and I liked spending time with my dad. (I used to like spending time with my stepmom until she decided I hated her -- I'm a little surprised she included us but there weren't any problems.)
My brain being what it is, I'm partly paranoid that my dad is secretly dying and he doesn't want to worry me/us but that that's why stepmom was ok having us over to allow us quality time with him ... but largely that thought isn't disturbing my emotions. \o/
Anyway it's weirdly nice to feel actually *good* about the day.
Also Friday I went to the library book sale and got a book about trains for Middle Nibling (whose birthday is in a week) and a cd for my mom (end of July). I don't have anything for my sister (birthday day after tomorrow) but it's nice having 2/3rds of the summer birthdays set. Also this month: adoptiversaries for both cats (yes I'm still celebrating Monkey's).
Also also, the cherry tree in my back yard is finally producing fruit (I forget how long it's been there but at least 4 years) and I had a couple ripe cherries yesterday :D :D Sour cherries, but still edible, and I prefer tart cherries to sweet. They're small, compared to what's available in groceries, but very yum.
