...the chair repair people can't come out until tomorrow. Afternoon.

Which, for one thing, means that I'm stuck with this for another 24h at /least/ (and there's no guarantee that she will be able to fix it when she's out here). My legs and back are already severely unhappy.

And for another, means that there's a high probability that I will miss choir rehearsal. First rehearsal of the quarter. First rehearsal with new music. And I'm going to miss it.

(yes, this is more important, but that's not the point.)

And for a third, means that I am way too fucking nice. Because I said "okay" instead of "that is not acceptable. You need to come out today." Don't know that that would have worked, but I could have at least tried, y'know?

I need/want to learn to be more assertive. I just ... it doesn't /occur/ to me. I have always been very much about following the rules and obeying authority without question and doing what other people tell me, and sometimes that's useful but sometimes it's just being a doormat. /sigh/

It's hard. It's particularly hard to go from smooshy to 100% bold in one jump. I had good luck writing out scripts for my phone calls, so I wouldn't get distracted from the points I wanted to make.

Also, as Laura Hershey wrote a decade ago ... You Get Proud by Practicing:

begin quote  If you are not proud
for who you are, for what you say, for how you look;
if every time you stop
to think of yourself, you do not see yourself glowing
with golden light; do not, therefore, give up on yourself.
You can
get proud.

You do not need
a better body, a purer spirit, or a Ph.D.
to be proud.
You do not need
a lot of money, a handsome boyfriend, or a nice car.
You do not need
to be able to walk, or see, or hear,
or use big, complicated words,
or do any of the things that you just can't do
to be proud. A caseworker
cannot make you proud,
or a doctor.
You only need
more practice.
You get proud
by practicing. quote ends
