Hey guys,

IFOPA - the International Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva Association -- is holding a raffle to raise money for FOP research and programs/services for the FOP community.

FOP isn't a very common disorder, and so it doesn't get a lot of attention; but for those who have it, the research is extremely important, given how crippling the condition is / can be. If you want to know more about FOP, the post here covers, er, what it's like for one person, at least. http://ifopa.org has more information as well.

Tickets for the raffle run $5 each, or $25 for a group of 7 tickets. You are also more than welcome to donate more, or donate separately without being part of the raffle. Prizes and a better description of the raffle can be found here. Tickets can be purchased online, or by phone (number on same page), or by contacting [personal profile] ysobel

There will be four winners of the raffle, which will conclude at the beginning of November. But there will also be a more important winner: IFOPA, and the FOP community.

If you can spare it, please consider purchasing a ticket (or more than one). And please feel free to boost the signal!

Am more or less set up for not-school -- still haven't figured out which language I'm doing, but I stole repurposed some math books from my roommates. (I have math books for reference. Two of them are calculus, one is differential equations, and one is ... I forget what, but still not basic math. Though there was some amusement over the fact that I consider "basic math" to mean algebra and geometry and suchlike, rather than, you know, basic math.)

I went ahead and started with the beginning algebra books -- stuff I know I know, except that I've maybe gone rusty on the terms even if I know the concepts. I am not writing out the exercises yet, because I don't need that much practice to know that 5 > 3 or that 5/25 can be reduced to 1/5.

Part of my brain is amused that I am going through this. I want to, because there are gaps in my memory, but it's like, I don't know, going back over "c-a-t spells cat".

The majority of my brain, however, is currently flailing about going "omg why are you DOING THIS TO YOURSELF" and "HEAD HURTS GO AWAY NOW" (it lies; I have not absorbed enough information to warrant head-hurtiness) and suchlike. "Wouldn't you rather spend your afternoon playing WoW, or knitting?"

Yeah. I kinda would.

But I'm not going to.
