Okay, I swear I've been working with yarn for, like, a really long time now. Years. So I'm not going to make rookie mistakes, right?

Ahahaha. Ha. Um. Ha.

So I'm doing a thing where it is not only *acceptable* to bring crochet but is in fact *advisable*. I didn't want to bring my Shawl Of Doom (did I ever bring that up hereabouts?), and my small project had just been finished (except for weaving in ends, but that a) doesn't keep me occupied for very long and b) is a bit impractical since I can't find any of my yarn needles. Any. They run away and hide.

Which means I might as well start something new. I know what I want to do -- some more fingerless mitts, because I seem to be oddly obsessed with them right now. Specifically, these. Get my aide to help me stashdive, pull out a nice floofy yarn, use the hook that I have out already, and I'm good to go.

And yes, I did bring instructions.

Get the ribbing at the bottom done, start on the hand part, get a few rows in. Stop for a sec. It's curling something fierce, way more than tunisian crochet ever has for me -- the force of the curl practically has the work wrapped around the hook.

So I look at things, and look up things, and discover a few somewhat trivial facts.

One: The pattern calls for a K hook, not an H hook. Which means that the I hook I am actually using is too *small* rather than being on the large side.

Two: The yarn was not the brand I thought it was, and therefore is not automatically worsted weight, but is in fact classified as bulky. It's a fairly thin squishable bulky, but still.

(Either factor alone -- thicker yarn than expected, smaller hook than expected -- would cause problems. Both together? Yeahhhh. Kinda not good.)

Three: The yarn, despite being acrylic, is super fuzzy and also super sticky. And therefore is next to impossible to frog.

...

...so, um. Am currently trying to decide course of action. My current options are:

a) proceed with the plan of making these particular fingerless mitts, which requires stashdiving for a replacement yarn that is actually worsted weight;

b) proceed with the plan of making a coordinated set of wristwarmers and cowl-and/or-hat out of this particular yarn, which requires finding or coming up with a pattern but really that's not hard;

c) use this particular yarn to make a shawl because I am apparently masochistic, which requires digging out an N hook;

d) use this particular yarn to make a blanket even though the yarn has color changes so short that the design won't really show up;

or e) give up and go brush some foxes in Glitch while I still can

So far, e is winning. heh.
