Dear Castle writers:

Okay, first off, Stanford is on the quarter system. "Spring" does not start in *January*. K?

Secondly, froshlings start in fall quarter, not spring-or-winter of the year before. Yes, they do have Early Admissions, but this is for deciding and informing the student sooner, not for actually letting them start sooner.

(Thirdly, froshlings have to live in a dorm, and rooms are not mixed gender; I think they make exceptions for married couples, but there is no way a baby froshling would get to live with her boyfriend.)

Sincerely,
an ex-Stanford stickler for details

(...though it didn't jar me as badly as the Stanford-era SPN fic where there was snow, and everyone was like "whee let's have a snowball fight" instead of "WTF IS IT DOING SNOWING". Even if a vast majority of students come from places where snow is normal, they would pick up on the wtfing of the natives.)

Okay, first off, Stanford is on the quarter system. "Spring" does not start in *January*. K?

And Fall doesn't start in August, as I constantly had to remind my family members.

...though it didn't jar me as badly as the Stanford-era SPN fic where there was snow, and everyone was like "whee let's have a snowball fight" instead of "WTF IS IT DOING SNOWING".

...

Seriously?

This is the place where I was cracking up freshman year watching people putting on gloves and scarves when it got down to 60. Besides, the whole point of Northern California is that you go to the snow--it doesn't come to you.

Augh. All of these things would drive me completely up the wall. Most of them shouldn't even be that hard to check on the college website.

I don't know from Stanford, but the snow thing is baffling the hell out of me. Really? Because California is known for its snowy winters?

I have this problem in the Numb3rs fandom (no, it does not snow in Pasadena), but there is *plenty* of snow in California! We've got huge mountain ranges loaded with lovely snow and pretty decent skiing. Only you have to drive at least an hour to get to them from where most people live.

I lived in Seattle for a long time and it only snowed in the city maybe 1-3 days a year so I even laugh at big fat snowy days in Seattle in fic. It barely sticks on the ground most of the time since it rarely goes below 29 where I was living. I hear it got worse after I left, but I was there long enough to enjoy the whopping one snow day my company had in about a decade.

Oh, I know there's snow. But it's not what California is *known* for and especially not the area Stanford is in.

I mean, Arizona is not known for its snowy winters either. The north country is actually quite snowy but everyone is familiar with the southern cities, instead. And here in Phoenix and anywhere within a good hundred miles, we would react to snow with O.O faces and cries of the end times being nigh. *g*
