ysobel: Heart-shaped explosion of a simulated Klingon vessel (boom)

The advantage to where I live is is that I can see the city fireworks just by going outside. The disadvantage is I get to hear it whether or not I want to. So I usually do go out.

It's not big-city-quality, but it is kind of pretty.

The music is a bit lolsome, though. I mean, really, guys, *Star Wars*? wtf. (Also the William Tell overture, and Dvorak's New World Symphony. And Indiana Jones.) Though at least they did do a bit of the 1812 at the end.

(plus the standard chorus of car alarms...)

Fireworks are pretty, but I can't help feeling uneasy at what we're celebrating. War should not be pretty.

It isn't a proper celebration until the booms set off the oversensitive car alarms.

One of our local radio stations puts on a pretty inane mixture of Sousa marches, bad semi-patriotic pop, good patriotic songs and horrible covers of patriotic songs by recent pop stars that is broadcast during our fireworks show. They call it "Sky Concert."
