Welp, finally saw Hobbit.

Legolas: still the prettiest. Thranduil tried, but his face caterpillars eyebrows were too distracting.

Tauriel totally has my heart though, elfwise.

Also, Tauriel/Kili forever yesplz ♥

Bilbo: Still my favoritest. Always has been, even back when it was just a book, but. Bilbo!

Dwarves kicking ass while barrel rafting was pretty awesome though, I must say.

And wee little Gimli!

Ahem.

OTOH, the Mirkwood bit was ... /shudders/ I've gotten a bit desensitized to the concept/visual of [Using Short Pointy Objects To Deal With] Gigantic-Ass Spiders just because they appear in every damn fantasy videogame in the history of ever ...okay maybe I exaggerate, but. WoW? Yep. GW? Yep. GW2? Yep. Skyrim? Yep. See? --but still, nope nope nope all kinds of nope. If/when I rewarch Hobbits, there will either be fast forwarding or leaving the room for that bit.

OTOOH, going with my mom is ... interesting. And amusing, because she was all "I bet the one guy they left behind because of being shot in the leg will be the one to fix his ancestor's aiming problem*", after which I had to explain how Kili and Will Turner Bard were different characters and in fact different races and not related to each other.

*complaining about not hitting a flying scary dragon with a few arrows is a little harsh, I mean, I do it in Skyrim, plenty of practice, and I still a) don't use my best arrows on dragons and b) wait until they've landed or are hovering for fire/ice breath before I shoot them. Really, it's not as easy as it sounds. Except maybe for an elf.

Lastly, that ending? Not an ending. At all.

Belatedly, but yes to pretty much all of this. I like spiders, I reserve the right to be upset about the spiders. But not much, because dwarves and Bilbo. I still wish they'd done the terrible insulting poetry, though. :P

And of course it's not an ending! It's the start of the last movie, when we see Bard get his Hero Marksman on. Which... it just occurs to me may be the first time he's ever fired an arrow? I cannot remember if the book mentions any firing practice. Oh dear. <<
