So. This has been an Interesting Week.

Thursday, I made two remarkable discoveries.

One is that given the right conditions, I can flip my desk over backwards, sending everything flying. (I'm fine -- the biggest result was a fuckton of adrenaline shock -- and the desk's fine, and most of the stuff that was on the desk is fine.) It was really kind of impressive, and the sort of thing I couldn't duplicate if I tried.

The other is that laptop hard drives do not particularly like being flung across the room. Especially when you add unknown quantities of tea (most of the tea ended up in a pretty safe space, but the bottom of the laptop was a bit wet).

...the laptop looks surprisingly fine for its adventure, but there's this slight problem where it doesn't quite work. At the time of the adventure, it had been on; when things got picked up, the computer was off and wouldn't even boot. I let it sit for a while to dry off, at which point it revived enough to turn on, and get to the login screen ... and then provide me with a black screen, clock text in the bottom right corner, a mouse pointer, and nothing else. I tried booting it up in safe mode, which worked to some extent but I couldn't do anything, and further attempts to boot it up in normal mode resulted in the same fun black screen. And notifications that "the program" -- being I think something native to the computer, like, say, displaying stuff -- was not responding.

Really, there's only so much you can do with just a mouse pointer.

I took the computer in to the place where I got it from, explained the problem to the nice people who think I am a complete idiot suspect I may need a new hard drive, or something like that, and then I proceeded to spend the next several days going increasingly insane. And also frustrated: online, I am sort of halfway normal. Offline, there is almost nothing I can do by myself.

At the moment, I'm on a borrowed laptop, and this is the first net connection I've had since the Adventure. (Four days without internet is easier to survive if a) you know in advance, and b) you can actually do other things.) It doesn't have most of the programs I use, but it has internet. More or less.

(am using IE. send help. *G*)

I'm not going to be on IRC or IM (or WoW) until I get a computer-what-belongs-to-me back; it seems impolite to download stuff onto a borrowed computer. If you need to reach me, email is probably the best way. If you want to steal one of my bugs from me, go ahead, since I won't be getting to them for a while.

I am not even going to touch my friends page until I get back, probably not even then because it's kind of an overload and I am barely clinging onto the few fragments of sanity that I still have. If you wrote fic (especially in fandoms that I follow), had any major life changes (births, deaths, marriages, divorces, pet acquisitions, etc), et cetera, plz to ping me so I can read it.

Miss you guys. <3

IM: a thought: if you have a gmail account, could you use the GTalk thing via the browser? Would require telling people your new username, but if it's going to be a while, it might be worth it. (if only for a few people you really want to talk to!)
