So there's this thing called exalting, which is where you ... sort of sell a dragon back to the game (instead of to other players). And the higher the level of the dragon you exalt, the more money you get for it (and the more influence your flight gets for dominance). So I got the brilliant idea to train up exalt fodder, since I had max level trainers ready anyway.
The basic concept for training exalt fodder is that leveling them normally through coliseum battles is super slow and also costly (because to really succeed in coliseum battles you need battle stones, which you have to buy, and also can't remove from a dragon once they're placed, so putting expensive stuff on a dragon you're going to exalt is rather silly). Instead, you get yourself a pair of trainers -- level 25 dragons that you are going to keep, decked out with the relevant battle stones (mine have 3 berserkers, which increase stats, two ambushes, which gives them extra turns at the start of battles, scratch and eliminate for most enemies, and reflect for the ones that can't be taken down with just scratch+elim), and then put the dragon you want to exalt as the third team member, and run through the higher-level coliseum arenas so that the baby dragon gets experience. (Experience is based on the level of enemies vs the highest-level dragon on your team, which is why you don't take one trainer and two trainees through the lower levels.)
I decided that I would train up to L20, because there is an achievement for getting 10 dragons to L20. (No achievements for 25.) So I did one dragon. And it seemed to take forever. At least a week. So with the next one, I timed it.
Getting to level 10: 21 minutes, using the lower of the two xp-giving training-suitable areas (Mire) just for variety.
Getting to level 13: 26 minutes, switched to the higher of the two xp-giving etc. (Kelp Beds)
Getting to level 16: 47 minutes, still KP
Getting to level 18: 68 minutes
The above is over five days' play. It'll take another two or three to get the rest of the way to 20.
It's almost like leveling is exponential or something.
(I want to exalt enough dragons to make room for the hatchlings that are nesting. I have ten that I eventually want to exalt, but not all at once -- my flight is doing low-level dominance pushes this coming week and again week after next and a higher-level push in July, but also I will be able to expand my lair with another 48k treasure -- and I don't know if I will bother leveling them all, because blahhhhh.)
