dream

Had a very disturbing dream last night. Content warning for car accident, no known injury.

So in this dream, my sister had … I don't know, didn't know, whether she had had some beers, or had smoked weed, or what, but she wasn't entirely herself. Still, for some reason she was driving. (I should note that in reality my sister doesn't do weed, and knows better than to drive after drinking.)

This was a twisty road akin to highway 1 on the Mendocino coast. One lane each direction. At one point my sister was trying to pull up a song on her iPod (one of the original style ones, not a touchscreen but a control wheel) and I noticed a car ahead in our lane, someone that was turning left from the opposite direction into a road leading down to a beach, except they had for some reason stopped. And I yelled at my sister to watch out, but she didn't brake, and hit the car side-on. It rolled several times before coming to a stop. The car that had been behind it went to make the same left turn but my sister was already pulling forward, aiming for a turnout across the highway, so she bumped the second car which dominoed the first car and sent it tumbling off the road down the hill to the beach.

(There was no glass, no blood, and I never knew if there were any injuries. Just the sight of the car, minivan really, rolling over and over.)

My sister was crying and terrified in a sort of childish way. My dad went into the drivers seat, but when the police came my sister volunteered herself as the driver. Our van somehow had no damage beyond a very slight dent in the front left near the headlight, but I knew that they were going to do a breathalyzer test on my sister and that she would go to jail for a long time.

Except then my dad drove off, saying that the police knew where we lived so could come get her when they were ready… And then there was a lava-spitting dragon and a self-building nanotech road that formed under our wheels as we drove, and it devolved into weird dream territory again.

I don't know what any of this means, or why my sinking feelings of dread in the dream were for my sister and not at all for whoever might have been in the other cars. Or why my sister was acting more like I'd expect from my mom. Or anything. But I am still super unsettled from it.
