ysobelThe newest NYT crossword-- technically tomorrow's but available tonight -- included a clue/answer pair of "What Mary might have had if she were into Italian sports cars?" / A LITTLE LAMBO...
...so naturally I had to rewrite the whole poem... 😂
Mary had a little Lambo,
Which she held quite dear ;
And everywhere that Mary went
She kept the Lambo near ;
It even came to school one day—
That was against the rule,
It made the children laugh and play,
To see a car at school.
The Teacher did not let him stay,
But still she kept him near,
And waited patiently all day,
Till recess did appear ;
And then she ran to him, and laid
Her head upon his hood,
As if he said—‘ I’m not afraid—
You’ll keep me safe, 'tis good.’
‘ What makes the car love Mary so ?
The eager children cry--
‘ O, cars are not for GIRLS, you know,’
The Teacher did reply ;—
‘ It is a pretty vroom-vroom car,'
Miss Mary did declare,
And 'neath the hood engine purred
as if to say, 'so there.'
'That's quite enough," the Teacher said,
'Enough with all your sass;
Recess is o'er, your play time done
Now come, all, back to class'
The children followed-- all but one,
For Mary lingered still--
Then quietly she climbed right in,
And drove off down the hill.
