I have been having Fiddler on the Roof snippets earworming me lately -- in particular "For Papa, make him a scholar / for Mama, make him rich as a king" and "There would be one long staircase just going up / and one even longer coming down / and one more leading nowhere just for show".

So I listened to the soundtrack... several times on loop... and now I also have other bits joining in (Tradition and Sunrise, Sunset and Do You Love Me). But also the ones I started with. I don't think it was a very effective cure 🤣

(I remember as a kid -- possibly on seeing the local production my sister did violin solo stuff for, when I was maybe 13? -- being vaguely terrified by Tevye's dream sequence, probably in part because I don't think I fully realized he was making it up on purpose. Now it's mostly just funny, as it's meant to be.)

(OTOH I have a LOT more opinions on gender roles than I did at 13! Also capitalism...)

I never saw the stage show but I saw the movie. And we had a lot of Broadway soundtracks on vinyl when I was growing up, including that one!

It's a good set of music to be earwormed by!

I used to think about how unidirectional staircases would even work and then I realized that aside from the intended silliness, it could actually be done as a construct. Like traffic lanes, to avoid collisions.

I adore Fiddler! And yes, the music is a frequent ear worm for me too. Also, according to a friend of mine who worked on Broadway, the Dream sequence is, shall we say, challenging.
