ysobel: A german shepherd carrying a no-dogs-allowed sign in its mouth (no dogs allowed!)
Am getting ready to embark on the not-a-school (for lack of a better term) project. Starting Tuesday, and am ridiculously excited for something that's self-enforced.

The non-computer desk in my room is cleared off, thanks in large part to helpful roommates. I am slowly getting stuff I need in there -- which would be notebooks, pencil sharpener, pencils, pens, textbooks of the relevant varieties, and I have NFI what else but I'm sure I'll figure something out.

I'm dithering on which language to go for. German would be easier to learn (since I knew it once), but also frustrating (kind of for the same reason). It would also be easier to practice; I have books in German, once I get grammar and vocab back up, and there are people on my flist I can inflict practicing on, and there are lots of sources available. On the other hand, there is a part of me that really wants to do Bulgarian (which I started working on at one point and then drifted off), and it would be fun to know what I'm singing about, and really it's just as practical in my everyday non-online life. So ... I don't know. *flail*

I'm also dithering on what level of math to go for, because really it's not about teaching myself new stuff, it's about refreshing what I knew. (I was a total math geek in high school -- did I mention the number theory summer camp I went to? -- and got, in HS, through a year of college-level post-calculus, but I haven't really touched it since then.) And I'm sure that if (I mean when) I get up the nerve to try tutoring, they'll bring something I don't know, but I can work with that.

(I'm also dithering on what I'm aiming for in terms of what I want to tutor -- high school kids? community college? university? algebra? geometry? calculus? -- and even though I keep telling myself I don't need to decide now, I'm still, you know. Dithering. Because if nothing else I am very good at the dithering thing ^_^)

I am kind of in love with the newest method of making stitch markers that I've tried. Ring with a bead on it, not dangly, nothing to snag. At least not if you do it right; I am annoyingly imperfect at it, but getting there. I need to a) do some more, b) remember to take pictures this time, c) find differently-colored jump rings, and d) find people to inflict them on, once I've made enough for this household.

I am also still in love with the first method of making stitch markers that I tried, which involves a straight dangle -- it's a long head/eye-pin, with a couple of decorative beads, and then the top formed into a circle and wire-wrapped around itself. But I am drifting away from those.

Still want to try actual danglies, where the beads are free-swinging separately from the bit what goes on the needle. Also want to figure out how best to make row markers; I am amusingly tempted by earring hooks.

My birthday is coming up and so of course I have started thinking about what I want. As you do.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT IN ANY WAY A SERIOUS LIST. (By which I mean, there is nothing on here that I wouldn't want, but it is. er. improbable, and meant facetiously, which is a word that has too many vowels.)

1) Criminal Minds DVDs. Of all seasons. Because I am sort of addicted to the show.
2) White Collar DVDs. Of all seasons, including the one that hasn't finished yet. Also, hand-delivered by Neal and Peter and El would be good.
3) A service dog. Of the awesome variety.
4) A new body. That works. And has a service guarantee.
5) A robotic hand that can reach things for me, or hold cross-stitch frames in place as needed.
6) NaNo winningness. (Because that's so probable by the 4th day)
7) A reliable transporter (and/or TARDIS)
8) An iPad, all hail apple &c.
9) A pony. Of the IRL sort. Along with a place to keep it, a place to let it run around, and someone to take care of the physical aspects that I can't manage.
10) Telekinesis.

That's not too much to ask for, right? *snickergrin*

(Okay, third entry. Same difference.

I don't know what's funnier: looking back at the first few LJ entries (when it was just a cool coding project, with no concept of what it would become even two years later, let alone ten), or looking at the first few DW entries (the ones I've seen are about 75% testing of various forms [and 20% "omg this is really happening"]).

*wonders what DW will look like in ten years*
