Not-successes in craftstuff

I figured that, having frogged the damn sock anyway, I might as well make proper stitch counters¹ while the loom was empty. What I had previously, red twist-ties, was functional but the tips kept snagging on the yarn. Plus, they were, well, beat-up old red twist-ties.

So I dig out my beading supplies, and also take a run to the local bead store to pick up magnetic findings (since I needed fastenings that could be easy to open and close one-handed but that wouldn't fall off accidentally).

... in case anyone's wondering, magnetic findings are a fucking /pain/ to work with, given that all of my tools are metal.

Long story short: I spent all day futzing around, hurting my arms a bit, to end up with something that a) doesn't really work, b) managed to break, c) doesn't work, and d) is generally an utter failure.

I am feeling all emo mopey self-pitying miserable.

Also, I can't figure out how the hell to do what I want to do.

My very favorite stitch counters are these bright green and orange plasticky safety pin things that you can get in the knitting section of lots of craft stores. I mostly only use one, but that's because I knit lots of simple patterns.

Yeah, that works for needle knitting, not so much for loom knitting :/

(This loom is adjustable, so I can't, like, mark off every 10th peg, or, as needed for this pattern, every 8th; and anything /on/ the peg would interfere with the actual knitting, unless I transfer it to the next peg and then transfer back when I'm done which is a total pain. So I'm trying to find/make something that would go around the loom itself between pegs, and not having a lot of success.)

(...I should probably clarify that in the post. I was just too mopey to be coherent *wry grin*)

{{Hugs}} I wish I had some idea of what would work for you. It sounds like even though it's frustrating, you are working through it and will come up with a solution.

I need to make myself some lovely stitch counters. For the stitch markers I just use a knotted loop of yarn usually, but sometimes I do want to count rows, and then I have to try and tie on something. What do you use to hook the lovely beads to the yarn?
