(latest step in computer saga, where the basic summary is this: system files are b0rked so security updates won't install and also windows validation is complaining. Automatic fixit tools didn't. Next step is running chkdsk along with other stuff,)
(and of course I didn't think to have my morning PA put a book in my reach, and doing stuff on my phone wears down the battery quickly, and I am sort of going insane)
