Mwahahaha

The other day I had Yet Another Encounter where someone was parked blocking the sidewalk. Not waiting-in-vehicle parked (and thus able to be asked to move, with or without additional glowering depending on my mood), but parked parked. And of course, being in a wheelchair means that I can neither a) step around the car (there is a sidewalk-width verge of grass between sidewalk and street, but there is too much unevenness both in the verge itself, because tree roots, and between the verge and the sidewalk to be possible for wheelchairs) nor b) go up to the house they are parked at and ask them to move (because steps, argh). So I had to backtrack. Sometimes I can just backtrack to previous driveway, go into bike lane around the blockage to the following driveway, and back up. Sometimes I have to go three lengths around the block and therefore take more time but be safer. Always I get frustrated.

It occurred to me yesterday that parking across the sidewalk is probably illegal (spoilers: it is) and that, while said illegality doesn't change how I get where I am going, it does mean I can do something.

You know, besides harboring fantasies of scraping up the offending vehicle with sharp edges of my chair.

So just to be sure, I emailed the parking division of our local police department, double checking that it was illegal and asking what I should do; and they got back to me today confirming that it's illegal, and gave me the non-emergency number which I can call and leave a report. (There's no guarantee that a report will lead to a citation, because the vehicle might get moved between when it's reported and when someone official gets there, but it's still better than nothing.)

So now I have something I can do mwahahaha.

Yes, kittens are cute.

This does not mean that you need one.

Heck, there are Reasons why it would be a bad idea. Lots of very sensible reasons. Like the whole "small apartment with two animals already" thing. And "two cats do not always get along" thing. And "wheelchairs and kittens do not mix", both because of having wires and cables and stuff that they could chew on, and because I might run over them.

...so why are you tempting me augh
