This is a) my horribly messy desk, with b) kitty settled on it and purring madly even though I am neither petting her nor being licked. She has beneath her a stack of papers / notepads / book / fuckifIknow, a ball of yarn, part of a dressing stick, a candle (not lit of course), and maybe some other things.
Conclusion: Cats can be comfortable in the strangest positions.
She has also fallen for the laser pointer dot of evil:
The first few times I tried it on her, she just gave me a "what on EARTH are you doing young lady" look of disdain. But she gets into feisty moods -- you know, the sort where she will pounce on invisible carpet animals, or attack the cat tree like it's been infested by demons -- and in those moods, she will chase the laser pointer. Down the hall, up the hall, around in circles, up the cat tree, down the cat tree, skidding onto the linoleum...
She sometimes stops and licks her paw / tail / nether regions, as kind of a "Okay I've humored you but I am so not falling for that again" memo.
Except that the laser pointer dot goes zip and then zap and off she goes.
(When she's near to losing interest she will track it but not actually go after it, and that's when I stop.)
She also has claimed as her own the couch:

(When I am in bed, she will sometimes claim my chair. Which is kind of adorable.)
