Well, that's just ... embarrassing

I managed to fall down a hole.
I have in my possession an iron axe that is almost dead, no ladders, and no crafting table. I have enough sticks to make three ladders, which would possibly get me out of here, except... no crafting table. I have precisely one wooden plank, which is three short of what I'd need to make a crafting table. I have an axe, but there are no trees underground. I have dirt and torches, but no saplings to make trees.
In short, I am pretty much screwed.
...the most annoying thing about the "die and restart" thing that is at this point my only option is that I have two full stacks of arrows in my inventory. I /like/ arrows.
(There is a slim chance that I can, after respawning, find my base, grab some wood, find the cave I dropped into, and drop again, before the items despawn, but ARGH.)
ETA: After discovering that I could not in fact die-and-restart in any efficient manner since there were no monsters nearby, it dawned on me that I had freaking /cobblestone/ in my inventory. Which, you know, /builds pillars/. So I am out and attacking trees wantonly. /facepalm/

Date: 2011-03-27 10:02 am (UTC)If you do get into another situation like that in the future, there are saved-game editors you can use to reset the player position if you really want to. One of my favourite map editors is MCedit.
Alternatively, if you feel that's too much of a cheat, you could use the Lose Me function in http://mc.42nex.us/ , which will let you teleport out while not actually knowing where you'll be when you next load it up. (You upload a level.dat, and it gives you one with a new random player position, which could be some distance away.)

Date: 2011-05-04 07:42 am (UTC)This is why I ALWAYS carry a stack of sand... JumpyPillaring is easy with sand, and you can tear it down from the bottom if you has to.
Gravel also works, and you get Bonus Flint for your trouble...
