Sep. 11th, 2011 06:20 pmWhaaaaaat is this I don't even *stares at game*
So I'm betatesting Diablo III, which is kind of awesome, except I'm a little cranky about some accessibility issues (there are a few things that are sound-based or sound-primary), and there's no character customization beyond 'class', but at least the female barbarian is not a skinny-ass chick with lordosis and helium boobs, so yay for that.
Anyway. The experience so far has been about 75% utter frustration because the client has a tendency to crash when I'm trying to log in. (I am not the only one this is happening to; I think it's a video card issue, maybe.) Very few problems playing once I'm in, but that's happened all of twice. Getting in, I mean.
The first time I went with a demon hunter; got her to L6 or so, and then our internet dropped out and I couldn't log back in.
Today, I managed to get on (after 20 failed attempts, and did I mention that there also is a bug where it's not saving login information?) and went with mymage wizard. All well and good, up to L9, got a npc follower, am proceeding through the quest line, blah blah, and ... it stops responding.
Which I figure means that the internet blooped again.
It kicks me to the ... er. so there's the login screen, and then the select character screen, and then a screen once you've selected said character that gives you some options including, er, playing. Anyway. First time you're in on a character, the two options are "Campaign" and "Versus", the latter of which is greyed out because it's in beta. I am assuming that this is basically selecting PvE or PvP. Since I generally dislike PvP, I don't really care.
Once you've selected Campaign, there is yet another screen menu thing with START GAME as the big option. Now, I just tested this with my demon hunter from yesterday, and it works as expected, i.e. I'm still on the quest I had been on, and I zone in on the main town but I can find my way back to where I was with no worries.
Why did I test this?
Glad you asked.
Because on mymawizard, I'd gotten a "you have been disconnected from the servers" message blah blah that I didn't pay much attention to, and when I clicked the "start game" button, it set me back at the veeeery beginning of the whole entire fucking storyline
Not, mind you, with a nublet character. I'm still L9, still have the armor and equipment and inventory that I had before, still have the NPC Templar following me around like a puppy ... but I am back on the original quest. And the gate is locked, and the various places that unlock as you progress through the game are not there.
(For the old-school GW fen, this would be like having your L20 ascended superfancypants character dumped back into pre-searing Ascalon and doing that all over again.)
I am torn between laughing my ass off, crying with frustration, and wondering why the hell they gave the Templar dialogue for the beginning area. (No, really. I'm all "herp derp the Magic Thing of Magic must be around here somewhere!" and he's all "Yeah and the tomes let's go!" and the quest is all "Talk to this NPC questgiver and pretend like you don't know her, k?")
...so instead I fired up anec witch doctor.
