Haven flail

I've (mostly) stopped trying to analyze "why" Haven is such a happy place for me, especially when the criteria I can think of apply to other shows that haven't hooked me at all. I'm just going with it. Feeling fannishly squeeful about something again is nice.

(It's also a little lonely because I'm not involved in fandom at all, so there's no one to squee with, but right now my sense of ... feeling like I'm allowed to like what I like, I guess? ... is extremely fragile, and if I get sideswiped by "This is problematic because XYZ" or "[element I like] is so stupid", it'll just send me into a tailspin. Which I really don't need.)

But I do have to rant very briefly.

Spoilers through last night's ep (S04E08 "Crush")...

Okay, so they've been building up the whole "if Audrey kills her twu wuv the Troubles end forever" thing, and ... there's no proof or prior evidence to support it, in the way "if Audrey goes into the barn the Troubles stop for a short while" does, but whatever, it's vaguely plausible. And when things were normal (okay, Haven normal, which is not normal normal) it made sense for it to be a backup plan. And when things went screwy with the Troubles (and meteors) *not* stopping, it made sense for "we can't kill Nathan yet, we need to find Audrey and have her kill him" as a backup ploy.

(Doesn't answer why Nathan didn't go more suicidal than he did, between S3 and S4, but that's a thing for another time)

but

okay

the rules have quite clearly changed now

not just because going into the barn didn't work, but everything. Troubles can be contagious, and non-Troubled folk can get Troubles, and there's the weird handprint thing (which is sort of begging for a SPN xover with Cas's handprint on Dean, but never mind), and it's clearly not operating by the same rules.

so

why the fuck doesn't someone (*cough*Audrey*cough*) say "look, it may be partly selfish that I don't want to kill you, but with everything else being different there's no guarantee this will work so no"?

*throws things and sulks waiting for next week*

(I am fairly sure that the cliffhanger offscreen gunshot will not actually result in a permanently dead Nathan -- it better not, since he's one of the leads -- though I am slightly glad that the promo for next week didn't really indicate one way or another.)

(and unrelatedly, I still want to write sensation-related ace!Nathan fics for k_b ... )
