... heard back from the tech people. Hard drive is definitely kaput. They will need to replace the HD, reinstall the OS, and reload whatever data they are able to salvage from the old HD.

(I was going to post about ways to make cross-stitch functional again [summary of situation is that my eyes are too bad and I can't hold the canvas any closer than belly-button distance, besides which the actual stitching hurts my wrists] but maybe, between computer problems and the service dog, I should sell the stuff I have. :/ sigh.)

On the bright side, I have temporary kitty. \o/ (Roommate's cat, who's been staying with her ex, but is over for a bit of Necessary Kitty Time for both of us [roommate's sister just died, albeit not unexpectedly, and her other sister is a fucking bitch].) Said kitty is currently hiding in one of my bookcases, but she's adorable and quiet and is, I am told, generally a lap cat. Technically my lease does not allow cats or dogs, but I am pondering whether or not to try to wheedle an exception.

Do sparklepires actually suck, though? I thought that the idea of sparklepires (beyond the sparkling) was that they didn't actually suck: that is to say, that they suck at sucking. Or something like that. But yeah. Life.

They suck, it's just that some of them are "vegetarians", and so don't suck *people*, unless Bella pouts enough.

Have you tried a cross-stitch frame with a magnifier glass mounted on it? This reminds me I need to mount my next project on my new slate frame...
