My gut...

... is trying to kill me making me miserable. Possible tmi alert, though not too much.

So last night, starting about half an hour after I went to bed, I was getting really sharp abdominal pain coming in waves -- it would peak (around 8 or on pain scale) and stay there for maybe 10-20 seconds, and then ebb away, and be quiet for a few minutes, and then sharply peak again. The source of the pain started in my stomach a few inches below my breastbone, and gradually moved down to just above my pelvic bone.

Around 11 I finally roused myself (from the between-peak "oh this isn't too bad I can just get to sleep" lethargy) to realize that this is the sort of pain -- and, at that point, location -- that frequently heralds diarrhea. Which is never fun, but I would prefer not to have it happen in bed, so I got out of bed (which is an immense production, the more so because my usual roommate was out of town and my mom was the one subbing and I had to explain everything to her, and I was in enough pain that I was practically doing Shatner-talk) and sat on the toilet.

And sat. And sat. And got my mom to massage my gut in circles, because I can't do that for myself. And sat. And put a heat pack on my abdomen. And sat. And sat. And tried to doze while sitting up. And sat.

The pain continued, and sitting up made it worse, and nothing came out.

I finally, somewhere around 1:30, gave up and went back to bed, but not with the usual setup -- I left the sling hooked up so I could be gotten back over to the toilet chair pretty quickly if needed, didn't have my usual pillow setup, didn't have my sleepphones on, just left things in emergency-get-out mode but done such that I could sleep because I was fucking tired.

The pain turned out to be mostly gas. I did have a large bowel movement in the morning, a bit on the sticky side but decently formed, but there was a lot of gas, and that continued through the morning, along with lingering stabs of pain (although less severe).

I'm trying to think of what could have caused it. Dinner was sourdough bread and brie cheese and apples and white wine; lunch was eggs and bacon and waffle, at a restaurant; breakfast was coffee and little nibbles of pastries and grapes and addictive pumpkin pie almonds. Dinner the night before was enchiladas that my roommate had made; no lunch; breakfast was peanut butter on toast and coffee. Nothing that I know I react to (eggplant). So... bzuh?
