Got some prednisone (such fun stuff, yummy too) for the hip flare-up. Someone suggested that I should pay attention to the current areas of chronic pain (especially hands, but also spine and knees) to see how they react to hard-core anti-inflammatory.

Just (ish) took first dose, but baseline summary: spine and hands have been averaging 4, finger joints crackly esp left hand. Knees around 3 but worse under pressure (sitting upright w/ foot on footplate). Hip 7, does *not* like sitting upright (so I end up super slanted left or tilted back.

Will (hopefully remember to) update this entry over the next week. Temporarily stickying.

Wednesday so far: woke up totally relaxed. Some spine issues overnight, spine maybe 1, fingers crackly but don't hurt. Not out of bed yet though.

Rest of weds: hip cranky but only mostly 5. Back needed cracking but minimal pain. Hands seem less crackly. (Mood swings extant but tolerable. Started antibiotic for now-symptomatic UTI.)

Thurs: pretty much same so far

Fri: pain pretty damn low. Hip uncomfortable but less so than it has been, didn't pay attention to hands or spine. Side effects are crappy (sweating grossness probably the prednisone, manic-babbly/crankypantsness mood swings probably same, peeing a lot may be both, concentration shot to hell, no idea which med is causing the feeling like I'm in a mild but perpetual adrenaline rush) but manageable.

Sat: hip more uncomfortable, maybe spiking to dull 3 on pain scale. Side effects of meds persist. Suspect antibiotic for the adrenaline rush feeling, since it seems to increase after I take a dose (4x/day vs prednisone 1x/day). Neck kept feeling temperaturely wrong but I couldn't tell if too hot or too cold.

Sun: about the same. Totally overdid energy wise, crashed hard in the evening after running out of prednisone fuel. Fingers back to being crackly.

Mon: back at low end of 2, hip same as Saturday. Side effects still crap. Moody and miserable and fidgety.

Tues: hip to 4, but interesting note: knees do not hurt despite being "overstretched" overnight - no crankiness or stiffness or pain even on first getting out of bed

...

Fri 10/2 - hip to dull 5 but not really flare-up-ish any more, just "sitting on bone". Side effects still present but milder. Spine to 3, hands 2, knees 0-1

-- Final update

Post prednisone summary: hip not in flare up but almost definitely new bone (outside of hip) and cranky therefor. Knees have gone back to crankiness, spine ditto

Ugh: cortisone and antiobiotics. Two lousy tastes that go not at all well together.

My sympathies.
