Update on the Nextdoor situation

They replied to my "not sending you a scan of my ID" with this:

Since a unit number wasn’t specified when you signed up, we have to confirm that you’re not the person in the registry.

A copy of an official document like a utility bill, lease, or tax record that references both your name and address would also be acceptable for verification purposes.

See...I think that's more reasonable-especially the utility stuff because it doesn't give SSN and stuff, but maybe that's just me.

(It's also me having to have given that stuff before for other program requirem3ents (EAP credits, etc) so not as paranoid, etc) Maybe I'm contradictory here, but it's better than having to give the ID where other Nonyabusiness info is given.

Yeah, but I don't get snail mail bills. Nor do I file taxes. And I'm just pissed at them in general.

If they had started with "something referencing your name and address" rather than "your ID specifically", I ... would be a lot less peeved with them.

Yes. But I did specifically ask if o could send them a photo of mail I had received (thus showing name and address), and nope, that's not enough. It has to be something official .., by their measurement of official.

Don't get paper bills, don't do taxes (and wouldn't be willing to send that in anyway), don't have current access to the recent lease agreement. And because they started out with demanding ID, I'm less willing to cut them slack or go to great lengths.

When I gave plasma, the proof-of-address was "any mail postmarked within the past month".

And if they'd asked for that, I wouldn't even have complained.

I'm trying to decide whether or not it's worth going to the effort of sending them a photo of mail I've gotten and see if they accept that, or just saying fuck it.

Dubh was on Nextdoor for awhile when we were in Sacramento (hi from Atlanta, btw!), because it was the only place the Sac PD would release community updates. He finally gave up on it because of the endless vitriolic racism, classism, people going after the homeless as trash, endless tirades against "those people" and how they needed to make sure they were kept or driven out of "our" neighbourhoods ("Why can't the police just shoot them? If enough of them get killed, maybe they'll get the hint"), etc. I saw all that and didn't even sign up. I hope the Davis one is more sane, at least. :/

Nextdoor is like this nationally. It is a cesspool of white people reporting the mere presence of POC in their communities as a threat and any collection of people doing anything on the street other than transiting from car to home or doing obvious property maintenance as a threat.

Nextdoor is the milder, nicer, version of Stormfront. The same basic values underpin them both.
