Chorus rants, like livetweeting only longer and also posted afterwards:

* for the rehearsal we are encouraged to come in concert dress (either full tux or long-sleeved black, in either case all limbs at least 3/4 covered, and last concert when I attended I was super aware of bare skin) but allowed to come in street clothes and change between rehearsal and concert. ...There is someone here in a little black dress (sleeveless, skirt only halfway down her thighs) and no sign of alternate clothing. ::skeptical side-eye:::

* OMG people filing out in rows is NOT HARD. Except apparently it is. Three rows, starting at the front, stage left leading each row in from stage right. First row makes it okay. First half of second row makes it okay. Second half of second row ... dithers and tries to go the other direction. Third row is a totally lost cause.

* Partly because of previous, we got no warmup. Singing O Fortuna with no warmup? Ahaha. I sang the last quarter of that movement an octave down.

* conductor is giving stand/sit directions. People keep *making him wait* while they find the right spot in music. THAT'S NOT HOW THIS WORKS. Not when there's limited rehearsal time. Write down the info on the index and transfer it during the HOUR between rehearsing and concerting.

* if I were the conductor I would be yelling by now omg. Kinda want to write him a "sorry people are dumb sometimes" email afterwards. (Wait, dumb is ableist, isn't it. Substitute "thoughtless, inconsiderate, and frustrating" instead.)

* do want to send an email to the grad students; they haven't been my favorites (not saying that part) but this is their last official quarter.

* wtf why is everyone leaving the stage -- I mean yes the rehearsal is on a 20 min break so they can set up the orchestra, but our fearless leader *literally just said to stay put* and maybe a few people need to pee or whatever but 3/4 of the choir? Why bother going elsewhere omg whyyyyy. I do not understand people sometimes.

****

Now comes the fun of watching what people say they consider concert clothes. That's always fun.

Miniskirts with tights is technically allowed but at least it's halfway trying. Miniskirts without? Not so much. Ditto sleeveless. The instructions are not ambiguous, they are explicitly verbally told at the beginning of the quarter as well as being printed on the syllabus, there are nine or ten weeks from the first rehearsal to the concert, and we get multiple reminders the two weeks leading up to the concert. There are several thrift stores in town. Getting something that works, with that much warning, should NOT BE HARD.

And yet.

(At least the person in the little black dress has a long sleeved shell on now. Still probably an abysmally short skirt...)

(And there are fewer exceptions than normal. I'm shocked.)

Unrelatedly, good grief people, being in your seats at 6:45 for a 7:00 concert does not mean sitting down at 6:45 with a sandwich. Planning ahead is a thing.

So is showing up on time, all you people trickling back in at 6:47 and 6:48.

So is not moving the chairs that are positioned for a reason.

Oh god, someone's doing present presenting. Before the concert. I hate those. I mean, that sounds grouchy of me, but.

***

Grey jeans? *Really?*

A skirt that isn't even halfway down your thighs? Sigh.

(The conductor of the first half looked like he was on the verge of crying and/or throwing up. I half expected him to keel over in a dead faint when the piece was done.)

I feel sorry for the people wearing uncomfortable shoes, when the concert is done standing. Comfortable black flats are the way to go.

Carmina Burana is so fucking fun to sing.

It helped that we had great soloists (the tenor/swan totally hammed it up, the soprano had a gorgeous voice, and the baritone, omg, his voice and his humor and his pure enjoyment of Tempus Est Iocundum (and okay also he looks like a friend of my dads that I totally had a kid-crush on))

and that it is such a rush to do

and I wish I were a guy-voice because the tavern stuff

but regardless

the Tempus / dulcissime / ave formosissima / o fortuna sequence gives me goosebumps several times

SO FUN

Holy crap, what? And seriously, had we been there we'd've missed half of that because so visual. xd

But, come on now, clothes really aren't that hard to come by. I bet even *we* could find something, and we (being totally blind) would have a half-way lagitamate reason to slide by, sort of.

Holy crap we miss concert singing/ensonble stuffs now. *sighs* So much fun.
