ASL Questions

1) Is it possible to learn ASL without being physically able to speak it? Or is that a ridiculous goal?

2) If it's not a stolid idea for me to try, are there good resources? I mean I know there are YouTube videos, and I know how to use google, and stuff, so I'm not needing basic handholding there... but are there any especially good sources out there? Or especially bad ones o should stay away from?

3) Am I just going to regret this or get frustrated st my limitations?

1. I don't see why not. I mean, there are people who cannot vocalize who still manage to learn to understand spoken languages.

I think as long as you go in with the goal of attaining received but not expressive language, you'll be fine. And Lifeprint has been recommended as a resource a couple of times by the ASL classes I've taken.

It's certainly technically possible to learn to understand sign when you can't sign, but at least for *me* I find it INSANELY FRUSTRATING and incredibly difficult to deal with. YMMV clearly, I first learned to sign when I could actually sign, so it's a different angle I'm coming from ...
