So I finally got around to watching 2x08. A few days late, but eh.
Especially on the heels of this week's $othershow, this was a complete gutpunch. Ow.
(In contrast to $othershow, this was not as much of a meta-rage-inducing gutpunch.)
I still can't process all of it, and I think I need to rewatch the episode at least once more. But there were serious ow moments, even if the deathbed whispery speech gave me SPN flashbacks.
(Hey, maybe Red John is really Patrick's brother, and -- er. right, wrong show.)
Rebecca dying was an inevitability, especially once her face lit up with recognition of who she was seeing. Red John doesn't like liabilities. And for all that Patrick is going to be blaming himself, I don't think theres' anything they could have done that would have kept her safe.
Bosco and his team dying -- a gift from RJ to give the case back to Patrick, how's that for guilt trip -- was. Well. It makes sense from a meta perspective; part of the point of the show is Patrick's hunt for RJ, and he can't do that if another team has the case. But still, *ow*. And I think Cho is in on the cold-rage-hunt thing now too.
Minelli leaving was ... not something I saw coming. His speech to the media was completely awesome, and was in retrospect a "I am fucking done with this job so I don't have to be diplomatic" blaze-of-glory speech, but even then I didn't quite see it coming. Man. I'll miss him.
(In shallow news, Rigsby and Van Pelt are the cutest couple in the history of ever.)
And um. Yeah. Need to process this more.
