WoW stuffs
Jan. 14th, 2010 03:03 pmWoW seems to be my bury-my-head-in-the-sand remedy of not-coping. Given the number of things going on IRL that I have to cope with, this means there has been a lot of WoW going on.
For reasons of pure insanity, I have decided to go for Loremaster. (Well, the Northrend bits have a halfway decent explanation, in that apparently you unlock a tailoring recipe if you get loremaster of northrend -- do not ask why my shaman is a tailor -- but the rest of it doesn't.)
I have, in the process, discovered that I never ever want to do Borean Tundra again, that Grizzly Hills is not as bad as I expected it to be, and that I am insane.
I currently am at 70/75 Sholazar quests, with two in my log; I then have Icecrown, and then I'm done.
With Northrend.
Mind you, I skipped lots of Outlands -- 72/80 in hfp, 53/63 in terokkar, 36/75 in nagrand, 1/86 in bem, and 0/120 netherstorm -- and for classic stuff, er, I'm at about 300 each for kalimdor and EK, and there is no freaking way I would even consider doing this without a nice shiny addon, since I had enough trouble in Storm Peaks finding the 'missing' quests, and that was only over a single zone, not an entire continent.
And then there's all the repgrinding stuff. Seriously, that could occupy my whole day and then some. Kalu'ak I'm almost there on (2500 shy of exalted, which is two days' dailies), and doing all of the quests in BT/HF got me to exalted with Valiance Expedition, and doing the quest chains in Icecrown will bump up several (including ebon blade), but omg the dailies are going to kill me.
No, seriously. I only have to do Kalu'ak twice more (on this character), but there's Oracle/Frenzyheart dailies, and Ebon Blade dailies, and Wyrmrest dailies, and Argent Tournament dailies, and Hodir dailies (which I have never done but have heard ... ravings about), and the random dungeon stuff, and that's only Lich King. There's Burning Crusade reps (for which I am currently Friendly at best, except for CE and HH which I'm honored with), and old-world reps, including main cities (I am exalted with exodar, 1k shy with stormwind, and at varying levels of revered for the rest) and pvp (lulz yeah right) and timbermaw hold if I want to be completionist about tailoring, and ...
...and whatcha wanna bet Cataclysm adds at least twenty more factions?
All of which kind of leads me to pondering the concept of main character vs alts. For a long time, my main has been my only 80, namely Jhalia. But now I have two 80s, and which one's my main? I've been concentrating on Haaki, to get her leveled and now loremastered and also geared, and I haven't been playing Jhalia all that much.
And really, I've been saying for a while with the fact that my only main was a rogue. WoW rogues are not nearly as bad as GW Assassins (which are basically cloth-wearing stealthless ninja wannabes. in a land of creatures that explode when they die.), but they're still relatively squishy melee dps. And shamans are sturdier, and they have totems and distance spells and healing abilities and, while enh, spirit wolves and other awesome shit.
I keep looking between the two and going "..." about the whole thing, because I put a lot of time and effort and gold into Jhalia, into getting her to 80 and getting her geared and getting mounts and non-combat pets and achievements and stuff, and it feels kind of like a betrayal to switch to Haaki as my main, even though I like being a shaman better than being a rogue.
...and this assumes that I'm not just in the honeymoon phase of a new 80, which will wear off and leave me leveling my hunter or my mage or my druid or something...
Sigh.

Date: 2010-01-15 12:37 am (UTC)I hear you on the switching-alt thing, too. But if you've loved your characters, it's all time well-spent! (And yes. I can just see Cataclysm adding 20 new rep factions. DAMN YOU BLIZZARD!)
