ysobel: "Woo hoo! F&$@ the plot, we gots fish!" (nano 10)

So here's the thing.

I have, as of last night, hit 30k words.

This is a good thing. I am willing to admit that. However, a) I hate the story like burning, b) I have run out of plot and words, and c) there is no way I can write 20k in the next week anyway.

So I am trying to figure out what to do.

What should I do with nano?

Declare 30k a victory and stop

Push on for 50k (and probably fail)

Start some other writing project and hope for 20k words, even though that is against the purpose of nano

something else is:

See how far you can get. 30k is already pretty goddamn good. You certainly beat me. :)

30k would certainly be a victory, but I ticked 3, partly because I never intended what I am writing to be a novel per se -- I wanted the impetus to Write, Dammit, and focused on pulling together and working on the many-several Methos ideas I had been wanting to write, with an over-arching frame tying it together. I think 50k new words, with some kind of relationship, however tenuous or tangential (nearly a third of what I have written is framed as Methos dreaming a story that takes place in an entirely different time, the connection being the place and that the main character of the other tale is 'played by' Peter Wingfield.

But I am rooting for you whatever you choose to do.

*Hugs*

I personally think that if a) You're not enjoying it, *and* b) You don't think that anything good will come of it should you win, then it's probably not a good idea to continue.

Do remember that NaNo is meant to be something you participate in because you want to do so. Of course, most NaNo'ers are probably going to start not enjoying it in the actual month, which is why I included the second clause too. If you think that it would be worth it to get to the end, then I think you should continue. If you don't, then I'd say stop. As Peas said, 30k is already a heck of a lot.

If you do choose to stop, then the other writing project sounds like a good idea if you want to do it, I think, and would be a good way to get a bit of a spark.

So yeah, this is my answer. It kinda depends on how you feel about the whole thing, I think.

Either A or C would work, so I think you should combine them: declare 30k a victory, and then, if you have something else that is tickling your brain, and that you think you might make 20k words on, give it a start. The 'rules' are a starting point anyway. in more than one year, i've bent them: written on something i'd already started, written a bunch of different things, yadda. The point is just to get writing!

depedning on what you'd like best, either a or c.

this is my first year nanoing; i was given the advice to treat the rules like guidelines, so my goal is 50,000 words, but when i the story is being difficult, i work on other stuff and count those words, too. because *for me* writing is the goal, and whether it's one project or several (3, so far), it's words i've written.
