Date: 2018-02-21 04:32 pm (UTC)I dabbled briefly (with Rosetta Stone rather than duolingo), and I am very bad at languages but it was fascinating to dip into something so structurally different from European languages.

Date: 2018-02-24 06:22 am (UTC)So I am back to doing Japanese instead. Because *that* makes sense, lol. (It doesn't. But neither did welsh. I'm doing this for fun, not for any practical purpose, so why not.). I've gotten hiragana to the point where I can at least sound it out -- it's not as solid as even Cyrillic is, and my Cyrillic is pretty rusty -- but I can manage. Of course I still have katakana to learn, and kanji, as well as tons of other stuff, but eh. Like I said, I'm doing this for fun.
...I possibly have weird definitions of fun, lol.

If you're doing it out of pure interest rather than for a practical reason, then it's going to be especially interesting to pick languages which are outside the main European language family that (white) Westerners tend to have more familarity with.
