1. I've officially had Phoebe for a year now. Doesn't seem that long, somehow. She is still the bestest girl. (Standard disclaimer that other dogs may also be bestest; ties are acceptable here.)

1b. Her puppy raiser came for a visit today :) Phoebe was of course extremely happy to see her. (Yahtzee made sure he got a share of the attention, lol.)

2. Having wheelchair issues again... Read more... )

2b. ...and the new wheelchair is still not quite usable. It's better than it was earlier in the Chair Saga, but the joystick is in an entirely bad place, so reaching the joystick is awkward and painful, and I can't reach the buttons. Sigh. I have a call in to NoMotion (UnMotion?) for both issues, but I've had the chair in my possession since September (with the whole saga going back to May of 2022) so not holding my breath.

3. Inflicting the "Vindaloo" football (Brit.) song on my aides has the unfortunate consequence of re-earworming me too, but that's an acceptable cost for, uh, sharing the love, lol

4. For anyone who likes reading police/detectiv procedurals, I'm really enjoying the series starting with Angel Maker. (Technically there are earlier books with the main character, Jamie Johansson, but AM is the one I started with). It's set in Sweden, with a female lead, and it's good imo.

5. I still like having a shaved/ buzzed head.

6. The art thing I'm doing -- one sketch/drawing a day of items starting with a for the first week, b for the second, c for the third, etc -- is working nicely. Read more... ) I'm up to G now, woo.

7. Trader Joe's has some extremely delicious brookies. I'm kind of addicted (only not really). Also their mini ice cream cones are amazing, but I've known that for a while.

8. Tried a new cpap mask to see if it would be easier. Read more... )

9. Sorry I keep being so bad at reading DW and therefore have no clue what's being happening with y'all. It's not y'all, I promise! I just... forget it exists?

10. This took an hour to type up. Sigh. Hate how slow typing is these days. And typing on tablet (stylus plus thumbs on touchscreen) is faster than computer typing (mouse clicking on virtual keyboard).

I have a wheelchair technician coming tomorrow, the first available appointment when I called two weeks ago.

The way they do appointments, you get the day, but don't know time until the day before. Or, more precisely, the night before.

At 9:48 pm, I finally got a text:

Your appointment with a Numotion Technician is scheduled between 4/24/2023 10:17 AM PDT and 4/24/2023 2:17 PM PDT. You will receive additional communication from Numotion prior to your appointment confirming time of day.

...so...it's a four hour window but with very specific boundaries?? šŸ˜‚

(Also that means I have to leave my phone off of DND status tonight in case they call early... grumble)

Today has been... very Monday.

* Wheelchair tech was supposed to be here sometime between 1 and 4 in the afternoon, to follow up with the ongoing tilt issues and also start the process for getting a new chair. He came at 9am instead.

* then my morning aide called in sick, and while I did eventually get up I've been worried all day that she might have gotten me sick when she was here last night

* also Loki pooped and peed on my bed last night, because of course

* all day I've been tired and grouchy and brainless, and I can't tell if it's circumstance (plus gloomy grey weather that makes me want to hibernate) or if I'm maybe getting sick ... it's not covid just a cold but still not great

* and I'm almost out of one of my meds (that of course I can only get 30 days worth at a time) and Rite Aide is being... gah. I'm trying not to use "stupid" but I can't think of words right now, but they aren't communicating and are taking forever and argh

* fml

but I had fuzzy socks on, and leftover chocolate cake for breakfast because fuck-it-why-not, so it wasn't *entirely* bad

update

good news: my brain is finally willing to accept it's not november
bad news: I keep thinking it's early december

good news: numotion finally got around to fixing my chair (the on/off lever snapped off, plus the left wheel was squeaking badly) ... it only took several months and two days where I rearranged schedules for appointments they didn't show up for (once because parts weren't in yet, once for no reason they ever explained)
bad news: the (new) left motor conked out entirely on friday. my dad is taking it in tomorrow

bad news: van battery died, lolsob
good news: it didn't strand me anywhere

good news: puppy is still hella cute

(there is no bad)
ysobel: (Default)
Pretty sure the universe hates me right now.

Point: my chair is semi broken. Last week I went to go somewhere and *couldn't get out of the van* because motor 2 was disconnected. It took 45 minutes and two (strong) people to get me out -- luckily once I got back inside, the chair started behaving again, but I am afraid to go anywhere in case I get stuck, either in the van again or outside someplace. The theory is that something in the right-side motor is loose/worn enough that the disengage lever slips out of fully locked. (Which also means it's totally unrelated to the joystick falling off earlier.) They've ordered new parts but this tends to be the sort of thing that, based on delivery times, is handmade by Tibetan unicorns in the light of a full moon and then shipped via narcoleptic yak.

It's been a week, and so far I've missed a book group discussion that only meets every other month, reiki, choir rehearsal, soul collage, and I forgot what else but fuck. Also all three pets had vet appointments, so my aide had to go be my proxy.

Point: my brain feels like it has somehow short-circuited because stress and because I don't know if the chair will die completely or when it will be fixed. i can't focus on anything or do anything or ... anything.

Point: the aide that was leaving at the end of the month? Apparently the other client needs her sooner so as of Monday she can't work for me in the afternoons. She's still doing her two morning shifts through the end of feb, but not the three afternoon ones. I found this out tonight.

Point: the power went out at around midnight and stayed out for two hours. Something was beeping. My bed (alternating air pressure mattress) requires power. My cpap requires power. My fan requires power. Too hot and uncomfortable to sleep. And I couldn't even distract myself with Netflix because internet requires power (and while I do have videos on my iPad, I didn't want to drain the battery down and have nothing, if the power stayed out). I got the cpap hoses disconnected so I could breathe (it is very awkward and stifling to try to breathe through the filters and stuff when it's unpowered) ... but then when the power came back on couldn't get it connected again (partly hecause the hose attached to my face mask isn't quite long enough for me to hold well, partly because I can't bring my hands together) so I had to wake my roommate up. Which is, granted, one of the reasons she's here, but I still hate doing it.

Point: it is ::squints at clock:: 3:30 and I am not asleep and my brain doesn't want to go to sleep (it's like a very small toddler, just less mobile). I'm also hungry and craving sugar, but I haven't figured out a way to eat stuff in bed, and anyway shouldn't be having a lot of sugar, though I'm thinking of saying fuck it and just gorging on chocolate tomorrow, because who fucking cares if it's healthy, give me all the sugars.

Fuckadoodle

Fuckity fuck fuck.

This morning I got up and got in my chair and -- snap! -- the joystick broke

(Not the joystick itself, but the mounting bracket -- because I can't reach the armrest, which is where wheelchair joysticks normally live, I have a bar that brings the joystick more in the middle, and there is a bracket that clamps onto the bar to hold the joystick at the right angle. The joystick is still attached but it doesn't stay up, just flops out of my reach.)

Luckily my morning aide -- *not* the aide of very little brain -- was able to hang around for a few hours and do things like hold the joystick where I could reach it so I could go out and eat breakfast, or prop it up with a neck pillow.

I called UnMotion and they offered to send someone out on Monday. Not acceptable. They said I could bring it in this afternoon. Annoying (it's not close, plus going from here to sac on Fridays is horrible because of mountain weekend traffic) but better. They also did a service thingie using an app that lets them access my camera, so that they could figure out if they had the right part. They were supposed to call me back and let me know whether or not to come in (because if they needed to order a part, there'd be no point in going in).

Which of course they didn't, because they suck.

I eventually -- after lots of calling the service department with no answer -- got ahold of someone at reception who was very nice and helpful and walked over to the warehouse to find out.

(The answer was they think they have what they need, can't guarantee it without having the chair there but I should come in.)

And of course a) I couldn't tilt back without the joystick flopping onto my stomach, so I'm deeply uncomfortable; b) driving the chair is hella awkward and my shoulder is probably going to hurt tomorrow; c) my anxiety is ratcheted sky-high because of all this, which makes being in freeway traffic minor hell (but at least I'm not driving); and d) I was going to get to have a knitting friend come visit and I had to cancel. :((((((

Edit: 3:51 and I'm out. Fix took five minutes. Once they found the right piece.

OMG Chair

Apr. 3rd, 2016 07:56 pm
ysobel: (Default)
So I have some very important news: I HAVE A NEW CHAIR OMG.

It's not perfect yet; there are all sorts of minor tweaks and changes that have to be made. (And because I am so physically inflexible, the wheelchair controls need to be positioned very precisely, and there are all sorts of awkward things like deflating the seat cushion a bit to make it more comfortable means the armrests are too high, etc.)

But. But! It is shiny and new, and *fast* (6mph top speed), and the suspension is amazing, and it has all the features I need including the lateral tilt, and the display has a clock, a speedometer, an odometer, a resettable trip odometer -- no streaming video though, lol.

I'm still switching back and forth between the chairs until the things that need resolving get resolved, but soon the most important question will be how to bling it up to suit my personality :D

Omg you guyyyys

I have my real chair back

And it tilts

because they are fucking dumbasses and didn’t notice a fucking loose screw

(Well, until my dad went to go get it and it wouldn’t go full speed and he wtfed at them and told them to at least get rid of the ducking ā€œsafety featureā€ and so they took it back and 15 minutes later found the fucking loose screw that was making things not connect right)

but I’m actually fucking comfortable again

(Also sobbing like a crazy person, because, well, I’m fucking crazy right now (two more doses I can get through this) but whatever)

I'm not sure how much I've talked about this here. But in the interests of having it all in one place:

Needless to say, this all is ... frustrating is an understatement. And sort of interferes with doing anything at all.
ysobel: A man wielding a kitchen knife and making an adorable yelling face (rage)
My main chair -- which, as you may recall, broke on the 7th -- was theoretically supposed to be fixed today, so that I could pick it up tomorrow.

Apparently the circuit board they ordered (which I swear they shipped by a narcoleptic sloth or something, based on how long it took to get here) didn't work. So they have to get a new one. Which will probably take at least another week.

*says a lot of bad words*

Meanwhile I am stuck at home, in a chair that is only barely functional and seriously uncomfortable, that makes my back and legs hurt and my butt go numb and puts me at higher risk for UTIs (I am on my second in the last three weeks) and pressure sores, that I'm afraid to go outside in. *And* I can't use the mouse with my right hand, and the left arm is starting to get a pinched nerve in the shoulder that using the mouse doesn't help with, and I can't play my games, and I am just REALLY FUCKING FRUSTRATED ARGH *footstomp*
ysobel: (fail)
Wheelchair update: Main circuit board is fried, so they have to order a new one from the manufacturer. So probably at least a week.

Meanwhile I can't tilt back without help (can't reach the switch) so I'm afraid to go outside because long legs + fixed ankle/knee/hip + tilted all the way down = foot go smashy on uneven pavement. And I can't really use the van, partly because of the tilt thing and partly because I can't get seated all the way back in the chair so my knees will go smash against the glove compartment. So while I am not bedbound and can get around my apartment okay, I am essentially housebound. And can't even take Yahtzee for walks D:

Plus my wrist is not happy still and using the mouse hurts, so I'm trying to limit full use of computer. I can browse stuff okay using either a) left hand on mouse plus on-screen keyboard for typing, or b) voice control if I'm alone in the apartment, but neither strategy works for gaming, so no SWTOR escapism. Sadface. At least I am getting a decent amount of crochet time?

(And at least I was able to get my dad to fix the left armrest, which was way too high for how I sit now and so was not only uncomfortable but was turning my hand numb um no thanks. Now it's just poking into my hip, which is way more tolerable.)
ysobel: (fail)
My chair is not working.

Problems started last night, roughly 8:45, where it stopped working -- the joystick unit would turn off and on but none of the functions worked, the mode toggle button didn't cycle into tilt mode, the sideways tilt didn't do anything, and cycling off and on didn't help. I called roommate in to do a visual check, but at that point it started working okay.

Repeated five minutes later, again started working after a few minutes.

Repeated about five minutes later and DIDN'T start working. None of the functions work (if I e.g. press the lights button, the little blue indicator light on the joystick saying it's on will light up, but the lights don't come on). The panel of buttons in the back that I never use (that give non-joystick control over tilt functions) don't work. The sideways tilt doesn't work. And it doesn't sound like anything even tries to engage, there's just no response.

None of the times was there any particular trigger.

Luckily the third time I was mostly in position to go to bed, so transfering out was not a problem. I pulled the backup chair out of the closet, it does work (yay for remembering to keep it charged), but AUGH. It isn’t really set up for my current physical situation (it’s about ten years old now, and when I got it I could still move enough to go to the bathroom by myself most of the time and dress by myself and stuff, so a lot of the switches and buttons and whatever are neatly out of the way where I can no longer reach them), and it's way less comfortable.

...I was half tempted to just say fuck-it and stay in bed all day anyway.

(Except for the bit where I can’t really drink anything in bed, and dehydration on top of caffeine headache may not be the best idea ever.)

And the situation is not likely to resolve quickly -- between the whole insurance stupidity of requiring preauthorization for wheelchair repairs, and then once they get that and diagnose the issues they’ll probably have to order parts. So the next few days are going to suck rather a lot.

Meh.
ysobel: (Default)
Just what I needed: my wheelchair decided to utterly freak out and stop working.

...with me tilted all the way back and at a bit of an angle so I can't even get out.

Yay?

(at least I'm inside)
ysobel: Jack Davenport is not happy. text: fuck off (fuck off)
this is the text of an email I just sent to my dad.

so in addition to everything ELSE that's going wrong with the chair?

half the freaking seatbelt just fell off.

(not entirely sure what the problem is. from what [my PA] was saying it sounds like there is a screw that screws through the base of the seatbelt anchor and locks into a thingie in the chair, and the thingie in the chair has vanished mysteriously, so it has nothing to screw to so it doesn't stay attached.)

...in some respects this is more of an inconvenience (and a "where the hell am I going to anchor my phome" issue) than a safety thing because of the NOT GOING ANYWERE thing, which I am VASTLY sick of; but it is something that should be fixed and I don't know how to fix it and I am kind of flaily and it doesn't help that I didn't get to sleep until somewhere around 5 last night and did I mention there's a minor FOP flareup going on in my right thigh/butt?

...and did I mention that I sort of managed to make a hole (well, dent) in the bathroom wall with my knee?

(...and did I mention I am running out of ways to cope arghflail)
